UPFL Regular Season Review + Playoff Preview

26 11 2008

With the UPFL Playoffs a day away it is time to step back and review the first 12 weeks of the regular season and hand out some regular season hardware with the first ever UPFL Regular Season Awards.

Probably the biggest question is who is the league MVP? The past season was chalk full of surprise players and disappointments, many players who were not considered first-rounders stepped up to become contenders for this award. The following are the canidates for UPFL MVP: Kurt Warner, Drew Brees, Anquan Boldin, and Michael Turner.

Brees has the most points in the regular season, while Warner had a surprise bounce back season. Boldin has been nearly flawless in his contract year, while Michael Turner has turned from LT’s back-up to better than LT.

Thats right Warner, let the wife stop mugging you and come and get your UPFL MVP Award

UPFL PLAYOFF PREVIEW

For the first time ever we enter the playoffs with a team undefeated, an amazing accomplishment fueled by luck and some shrewd General Management. Will Brain Trust become the first team ever to complete an undefeated season? That is the biggest question mark heading into the 2008 Playoffs.

Another question will Cinderella return this year? Last year marked the first time ever that a lower-seeded team did not make the Final Four, will this trend continue or will the shoe fit some Lucky GM this year?

*********************************

Well I think after all is said and done no team will be undefeated, sorry Brain Trust. Also, I believe Cinderella will return to the Final Four this year in the form of an unlikely run from a sub .500 team.

FIRST ROUND WINNERS: Brain Trust, 75 Years of Rebuilding, North Side Ghetto, Benson’s Boys, The Foonta Banfooks, Blumkins, The Fighting Manx, Double Lung

SECOND ROUND WINNERS: 75 Years of Rebuilding, Benson’s Boys, The Foonta Banfooks, Double Lung

FINAL FOUR WINNERS: 75 Years of Rebuilding, Double Lung

2008 UPFL CHAMPION: Double Lung

Good luck to all and have a safe Thanksgiving people…

UPBA SUPER FOUR – WEEK FOUR

24 11 2008

#1 – Break Away (3-1): In a battle of top teams dealing with inuries Break Away had a little more in the tank than peace.love.afros. Kenyon Martin played as if it were 2004 again.

#2 – The Untouchables (3-1): Should be #1, but forgot to set their line-up on Sunday and left several players on their bench.

#3 – peace.love.afros (3-1): PLA drops from #1 slot and will look for the return of Manu Ginobili soon to give his team a boost.

#4 – Whoomp There It Is (3-1): The trade of Dwyane Wade brought in some talent and depth changing this team into a contender.

RED ALERT: AquaSplash (0-4), Team Beauchamp (0-4)

Player of the Week: Antawn Jamison, Mayn Event

Bum of the Week: David West, AquaSplash

FINAL UPFL SUPER SIX – REGULAR SEASON

19 11 2008

#1 – Brain Trust (11-0): Undeafeated, loaded at all key positions, this could actually happen, an undeafeated team in Fantasy Football.

#2 – Double Lung (9-2): Only concern is QB with McNabb if he can get it together they could go all the way.

#3 – Desert Dogs (8-3): An amazing job after losing Tom Brady in week one.

#4 – 75 Years of Rebuilding (7-4): Second hottest team behind Brain Trust heading into the playoffs.

#5 – Wolfmans Wolfpack (7-4): Could the Wolfman add an unprecedanted third UPFL title to the lair?

#6 – Statutory Defendants (7-4): Some minor injuries at RB for this team but hopefully nothing that hampers them come playoff time.

Player of the Week: Anquan Boldin

Bum of the Week: Chicago Bears DEF/ST

UPBA SUPER FOUR – WEEK THREE

17 11 2008

#1 – peace.love.afros (3-0): They reach the #1 ranking, but look for this team to come down in the coming weeks while waiting for Manu Ginobili and Monta Ellis to get back from injury.

#2 – The Untouchables (3-0): Very strong at this point and should be #1 very soon.

#3 – National Mine Cougars (3-0): After two big wins over Champion, and C.L. Phelps…wait wrong time. The Cougars are rolling and so is Zach Randolph.

#4 – Break Away (2-1): Former #1 team is suffering from the injury bug with Josh Smith, and Kevin Martin out last week.

**************************************

Player of the Week: Dwyane Wade – Whoomp There It Is

Bum of the Week: Ron Artest – Team Beauchamp

UPBA SUPER FOUR – WEEK TWO

11 11 2008

#1 – Break Away (2-0): Dealing with some injuries right now, but the defending champs keep churning along.

#2 – peace.love.afros (2-0): The Commish blows his entire waiver cap money in week two, bold move? Or stupidity?

#3 – The Untouchables (2-0): Chris Paul and Andre Miller make a dangerous backcourt combination.

#4 – Oslo Warrior (2-0): Chris Bosh has been a beast in the early going.

Player of the Week: LeBron James

Bum (ankle) of the Week: Man, a lot of ankle injuries in the early going has tested some teams depth.

UPFL SUPER SIX – WEEK 10

11 11 2008

#1 – Brain Trust (10-0): After stats became official Brain Trust was awarded a W a few weeks ago. The drive for the first ever undeafeated season lives on.

#2 – Double Lung (8-2): Seems the top two teams have everything in place to square off in Yooper Bowl VII.

#3 – 75 Years of Rebuilding (6-4): Five straight wins makes this team a darkhorse come playoff time.

#4 – Desert Dogs (7-3): Trying to wrangle control of the wild UPFC Conference.

#5 – Blumkins (7-3): The defending champs are still a strong bet to put together four straight wins come playoff time.

#6 – Statutory Defendants (7 -3): Jay Cutler is gonna throw his arm out at this rate, but the Defendants only care about the next six weeks with him.

Player of the Week: Adrian Peterson

Bum of the Week: Steven Jackson, is he playing or not playing? Owners have to be frustrated with the weekly injury report on him.

UPBA SUPER FOUR – WEEK ONE

Yeah I agree Chris, your very good, thumbs up body

Yeah, I agree Chris, your very good, thumbs up buddy.

#1 – Break Away (1-0): The defending champs get off to a great start and solidify their #1 ranking.

#2 – peace.love.afros (1-0): The Afros rolled in the highest point total this week with a strong week from Andris Biedrins

#3 – The Untouchables (1-0): Chris Paul is the best fantasy player in the UPBA. Next question please.

#4 – Team DeVETO (1-0): They get the W this week without their top player, Deron Williams playing a single game.

Player of the Week: Chris Paul – Should I just keep him in this spot?
Bum (foot) of the Week: Greg Oden – Unfortunate is the one word I can think of.
