UPFL: YOOPER BOWL VI

28 12 2007

YOOPER BOWL VI

Blumkins vs. IOwensU

Well the team of destiny has marched on into the championship. I truly believe IOwensU is destined to win it all this year, BUT the Blumkins seem to have the players in place that are actually going to go all out as they try to make the NFL Playoffs. This should be a barnburner and one of the highest scoring championships ever.

The interesting thing with these two teams is they both have Randy Moss, and Clinton Portis, which means these two players cancel each other out, which is big. Because these two have been great over the past few weeks, the one thing in favor of IOwensU is that they have a better run game outside of Portis which could be the difference in points. Big Ben Roethlisberger has been playing well of late also and his play has help propel IOwensU this far. Of course the pick-up of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers D/ST a few weeks a go has also looked like a smart move by the GM of IOwensU. In the end though it will come down to the play of Steven Jackson, and Fred Taylor, can they keep up the torrid pace they have had over the past few weeks? Or will they falter in the biggest game of their lives?

Blumkins pulled off the upset last week over AquaSplash, and in the process won bragging rights for a year over his brother. This week though a much larger stake is at hand. The stake being $400 to the winner of YOOPER BOWL VI. Blumkins will rely on Moss, and Portis as mentioned but with IOwensU carrying these same two players the Blumkins scoring options come down to their QB, and the WRs/TE. Drew Brees has been great of late, and his play will be counted on heavily by Blumkins. Over the past few weeks there has not been a better TE in the game than Jason Witten, but does he sit this week in a meaningless game for the Cowboys? In addition you have Laurence Maroney playing well, but will he also sit if the Patriots get out to a big lead? A lot of question marks, but make no mistake this team is the far because they have made the right moves, and will hope that these moves pay off again this week.

In the end the difference will be Steven Jackson, I think he runs wild and the consistent play of the other IOwensU players will propel them to their first ever UPFL title. Good luck to both teams, but only one of you is coming out a winner, the other you’re a $150 loser.

Blumkins: 112 *IOwensU: 134

UPFL FINAL FOUR

20 12 2007

UPFL CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

GLFC: AquaSplash vs. Blumkins

The brothers Gauthiers will duke it out for the title of GLFC best in 2007. Blumkins has been the hotter team of late while the Splash has been the team to beat all year in the UPFL. These two teams both bring in explosive weapons or else they would not be this far. Drew Brees has been fantastic of late and if the weather is bad in Boston this weekend expect Maroney to step up again if not it will be  Moss led day for the Patriots. Splash simply brings the best line-up in recent memory to the championship and with two close wins the past two weeks you get the feeling this team is the team of destiny in the GLFC, but not the UPFL we will get to that team later. The Splash will be a tough out these next two weeks, the only thing perhaps holding them back is the resting of their Cowboy or Colts starters.

AquaSplash: 132 ** Blumkins: 115

IOFC: The Pacific Ultions vs. IOwensU

The Ultions are the only returning team from last years Conference Championships and have quietly been marching through these playoffs while dealing with injuries giving you the feeling this the team of destiny this year, but they are not. The Ultions are led of course by AP but also a fantastic WR crew, and will need big games from all their top players to stave of elimination from the UPFL’s team of destiny: IOwensU. Yes, IOwensU is the team of destiny this year, I just have this feeling that they will not lose, now of course I may have just jinxed them, but after five years of struggles this franchise is the farthest it has ever come, and I don’t see the train stopping this week. So if there is room find a seat on the IOwensU bandwagon.

The Pacific Ultions: 103 ** IOwensU: 129

TOILET BOWL CHAMPIONSHIP

Cobblestone Pez vs. Cone Corner

Well with a GM’s job on the line and Cone Corner looking to add a trophy to the case what team will give in first? GM Luhemann will get his team motivated enough to keep his job for next year, and that my friends is why the Toilet Bowl matters.

Pez over Corner.

UPFL SEMI-FINAL PREVIEW

14 12 2007

Cinderella has left the UPFL. With the lowest seed left actually being the defending champs, the UPFL for the first time ever among its final eight teams is without a Cinderella team. What does this mean? That the best of the best is left to duke it out for the title of UPFL’s best.

GLFC SEMI-FINALS PREVIEW

AquaSplash vs. Copper Queens: The Splash avoided a big time upset last week by climbing on the back of their Colts players, and now face a Queens team that is relying on more than just Tom Brady. The Queens have made nice use of some kick-return specialist at the RB spot, which has worked well for them. Splash will need a better game from AP to avoid a loss in this game, and continued great play from their Cowboys.

AquaSplash: 121 – Copper Queens: 100

Blumkins vs. Millen’s Men: Both these teams lit up the scoreboard last week, which makes these two teams’ heavy favs to win it all. This week it will be a slugfest between the two teams, does Blumkins Patriots (Moss, Maroney) run up the score on the Jets. Who does Millen start at QB? Big questions heading to this game abound, but only one team will come up with the right answers.

Blumkins: 117 – Millen’s Men: 98

IOFC SEMI-FINALS PREVIEW

The Pacific Ultions vs. Statutory Defendants: The defending champs are rolling right now and are looking to become the first team ever to repeat as UPFL champions. The Ultions will need a big game from AP this week in order to swat of the Defendants push for a repeat title. While obviously the Defendants need to keep riding the Manning train in hopes of repeating.

The Pacific Ultions: 101 – Statutory Defendants: 135

Jon Kitna’s Optimism vs. IOwensU: Wow. Both teams narrowly escape with W’s last week, and now will battle it our for a spot in the IOFC championship. You look at the rosters of both teams and you could make a solid case for either one of them winning it all this year. This week make no mistake I envision another IOFC wild west shoot-out. Does Romo keep putting up the stats? Can S-Jax finally crack open a can of good stats?

Jon Kitna’s Optimism: 129 – IowensU: 144

TOILET BOWL Semi’s

The Toilet Bowl marches on into its second week of play with no one paying attention except the teams involved. The Dawdlers are making waiver acquisitions as if their playing for the title not the title of league’s worst. In other Toilet Bowl news out of the Cobblestone camp is that GM Luehmann is playing for his job, if he doesn’t win the Toilet Bowl he may be looking for a new team next year to manage. We shall see.

Two Quick Flushes: Crush over Ghetto, Corner over Dawdlers

UPBA SUPER FIVE

11 12 2007

#1 – Mayn Event (6-0): Has avoided the injury bug, and besides that this team is really, really good.

#2 – Knight School (5-1): A mild surprise at 5-1, Knight School is the opposite team it was last year. Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer have been terrific so far.

#3 – Wolfman (4-2): Josh Howard has been playing some great ball this year, and the Wolfman is once again riding the success of a great draft.

#4 – Team DeVETO (3-3): Nabbed the former #1 on an injury-filled week, but even at full strength the Schnooks still would have been clobbered by this resurgent team.

#5 – AquaSplash (4-2): A big trade this week brings in some new faces to an already good team, will the trade push this team to the top?

RED ALERT: Brazicle Schnooks (5-1): Injuries could befall this team quickly. Cobblestone Pez (1-5): Well at least they did something about their post-championship dive. Wilders Bar (1-5): I though Durant was supposed to be MJ, even I admit I hyped him too far for a rookie.

Player of the Week: Deron Williams – Knight School

Bum of the Week: Lamar Odom – Statutory Defendants

UPFL ROUND TWO PREVIEWS

5 12 2007

GLFC Round 2 Previews

AquaSplash vs. Jlaw’s Crew: You have to like the GLFC with its two Cinderella’s (Crew, Ruff Ridaz) but now they move onto even more dangerous territory in their quest to continue a Cinderella dance. I think this week though the Splash will be a bit too much for the Crew to handle, and the Crew will be making early Christmas plans.

AquaSplash: 135 – Jlaw’s Crew: 92

Blumkins vs. Ridge St. Ruff Ridaz: Where are my Ruff Ridaz! First ever playoff win for the Ridaz in their three years in the league. Can they continue their upset specials? I think they can, with Blumkins Patriot players heading to Pittsburgh, I see a low-scoring game for Moss and Maroney, and I feel the Ruff Ridaz will put more points on the board this week to continue their unlikely march forward.

Blumkins: 95 – Ridge St. Ruff Ridaz: 105

Millen’s Men vs. Jefferson St. Wildcats: The Wildcats showed just how explosive they could be last week when LDT is on his game, but Millen’s Men will counter LDT with Brian Westbrook who has been the best RB in the fantasy game this year. This will be close, but I think the higher seed prevails.

Millen’s Men: 114 – Jefferson St. Wildcats: 100

Copper Queens vs. wolfmans wolfpack: The Queens rely on Tom Brady a lot, and if he is off at all and not playing Superman-like this team is beatable. I see that scenario happening this week. I think the wolfpack is peaking at the right time and catching Brady in a bad situation against Pittsburgh.

Copper Queens: 88 – wolfmans wolfpack: 108

IOFC Round 2 Previews

The Pacific Ultions vs. Falcon Crazy: The Ultions have been bitten by the injury bug AP returns just in time to help steer the ship to the second round. With Crazy hurting in the RB game I think the Ultions squeak by this week.

The Pacific Ultions: 101 – Falcon Crazy: 87

Jon Kitna’s Optimism vs. TEAM DeVETO: Optimism has been on a roll and so has DeVETO so something has to give this week, and I think the Optimism will prevail in a wild shoot-out. DeVETO though is capable of pulling off this upset so don’t be surprised if they do.

Jon Kitna’s Optimism: 124 – TEAM DeVETO: 116

Double Lung vs. Statutory Defendants: Another great IOFC match-up. The defending champs have been peaking at the right time after a horrible start, and Double Lung has been a very good team all year. The Defendants have some more explosive options on offense and I think that will be the difference in this game as they march on to defend their title.

Double Lung: 108 – Statutory Defendants: 119

IOwensU vs. Los Angeles Stars: IOwensU has had their best season yet in five years of UPFL football and they hope to continue that success this weekend. Los Angeles Stars are again a team peaking at the right time. Another IOFC shoot-out should be expected.

IOwensU: 112 – Los Angeles Stars: 125

UPFL TOILET BOWL

Ugh, the worst of the worst. Who will string together three straight wins to be crowned Toilet Bowl champion, who wants to do that? As a GM in this bracket I can assure you I will be going all out to win this week. So the other teams better be ready to bring it.

Quick Wipes: Muskie Lovers over North Side Ghetto, Cobblestone Crush over No Mercy in the Dojo, Cone Corner over The Perfect Elbow, Brazicle Dawdlers over The Ghost Riders

UPBA SUPER FIVE (Week 5)

4 12 2007

UPBA SUPER FIVE

#1 – Brazicle Schnooks (5-0): A nice start, but a wheel is off with LeBron hurt, and as GM of this team I know our first loss is looming.

#2 – Mayn Event (5-0): A great fantasy battle with the AquaSplash this weekend, but this team held on and keeps rolling

#3 – Shakers Pizz Plan (4-1): Doing it without Arenas, but now that Duncan might be out an extended period can this team keep winning?

#4 – Wolfman (3-2): Another big week from the Wolfman keeps this team steady in the Super Five.

#5 – Knight School (4-1): Just win baby, is this teams motto, they may not have a lot of points for, but all that matters is beating the team you’re playing this week.

Player of the Week: Caron Butler – The Untouchables

Bum of the Week: Dwyane Wade – The Dominators
