UPFL 2007 PLAYOFFS

UPFL PLAYOFF PREVIEW

We have finally arrived at the time of the season that anything can and will happen. Over the past five years no number four seed or higher has ever won the UPFL title. So with that said all those teams with losing records you have hope. Those teams with winning records you should worry, because upsets will happen, and they will shock. It takes just one big magical week from a sub .500 team to knock a top seed out. Sure they will probably put up half the points the following week, but for that one week they were the best.

With that said onto the predictions that are sure to flop when the upsets start happening.

IOFC ROUND TWO WINNERS: Team DeVETO, Jon Kitna’s Optimism, Double Lung, Los Angeles Stars

UPBA SUPER FIVE

27 11 2007

UPBA SUPER FIVE

#1 – Brazicle Schnooks (4-0): Three weeks of 600 or more points will put you in the top spot.

#2 – Mayn Event (4-0): Still could make the argument this is the best team in the UPBA. KG is a man on a mission this year.

#3 – AquaSplash (4-0): One day with an illegal line-up is all that separates this team from the unbeaten ranks

#4 – Oslo Warrior (3-1): A very strong week for the Warrior helps them continue to keep pace with the Schnooks in the Wooden division.

#5 – Wolfman (2-2): Other teams are 3-1, but this team is clearly a top five team right now.

Player of the Week: LeBron James – Brazicle Schnooks

Bum of the Week: Carmelo Anthony – Statutory Defendants

UPFL SUPER EIGHT

UPFL SUPER EIGHT (8)

#1 – AquaSplash (8-2): With AP down, can this team sustain its dominance? If he is out for one week only this team should continue to roll.

#2 – The Pacific Ultions (8-2): Another victim of the AP injury, this team needs more help than AquaSplash does as Larry Johnson is their other RB, and he be out also.

#3 – Jon Kitna’s Optimism (7-3): Starting to look good for the Optimism as Tony Romo has played great and with the Ultions hurting because of injuries the #1 seed in the IOFC is not out of the question.

#4 – Copper Queens (7-3): Time to give this team some respect. I still think not having a solid RB will hurt them, but their WRs are both studs, and Tom Brady is having the best fantasy season ever so far.

#5 – Statutory Defendants (6-4): Five wins in a row and counting for the defending champs. Will Manning and Smith be the answer for a repeat?

#6 – IOwensU (7-3): They are right in the thick of things in the IOFC, and with S-Jax back and playing well, this team could pull out the #1 seed in the IOFC.

#7 – No Mercy in the Dojo (6-4): If your starting to think the UPFL champ will becoming from the IOFC, you might be right. The Super 8 is sprinkled with teams from the IOFC, and the Dojo has the most dangerous weapon of all: Tom Brady

#8 – Double Lung (6-4): Crazy. Another team from the IOFC. If Drew Brees can keep this high level of play up and Priest Holmes can party like its 2002. This team has a shot.

UPBA SUPER FIVE

13 11 2007

UPBA SUPER FIVE

#1 – Mayn Event (2-0): In a battle for the #1 spot the Mayn Event wins, and with the win takes over the #1 spot in the UPBA Super Five. With Stephen Jackson due back this week this team will become stronger.

#2 – Brazicle Schnooks (2-0): A very impressive week vaults the Schnooks into the #2 spot this week. LBJ has been on fire since his anemic start to the season, and Dwight Howard has shown he may be the top C in the UPBA.

#3 – AquaSplash (2-0): Their name-brothers in the UPFL are currently #1 and with the way this team has played we may have our first ever dual #1 ranking in both the UPFL and UPBA at the same time.

#4 – Knight School (2-0): They have ridden their Jazz duo to #4 in the rankings. After a blustery, cold year last year, this team is off to a blistering, hot start this year.

#5 – Team DeVETO (1-1): If Emeka Okafor can play he did this week and avoid the injury bug this team could be back in the UPBA finals.

PLAYER of the WEEK: LeBron James – Brazicle Schnooks

BUM of the WEEK: Gilbert Arenas – Shakers Pizz Plan

UPFL SUPER 8

10 11 2007

UPFL SUPER EIGHT

#1 – AquaSplash (7-2): Well that week really put a firm grip on their #1 ranking. Gonna be tough to top this team come playoff time.

#2 – The Pacific Ultions (7-2): Top two teams what do they have in common? Adrian Peterson. Hmmmm

#3 – Jon Kitna’s Optimism (6-3): Tony Romo’s Optimism is more like it.

#4 – Double Lung (6-3): Drew Brees has been in the words of NBA JAMS “He’s on fire!”

#5 – Statutory Defendents (5-4): Playing excellent over the last four weeks, but what was with that $22 spend on an injured Ronnie Brown?

#6 – Blumkins (6-3): Traded LDT, but acquired some major pieces to compliment Drew Brees for a possible title run.

#7 – Copper Queens (6-3): There riding the Tom Brady train until it stops, could last all the way to Yooper Bowl VI.

#8 – Millen’s Men (6-3): Hot. Hot. Hot. Four straight wins and doing it without Marvin Harriosn.

UPBA SUPER FIVE – WEEK ONE

8 11 2007

UPBA SUPER FIVE

#1 – Shakers Pizz Plan (1-0): Gilbert Arenas had an off week and this team still found a way to win in week number one, probably of more concern for this team is the play of Ben Wallace.

#2 – Mayn Event (1-0): A great opening week for the rookie, and they did it with Stephen Jackson on the bench.

#3 – AquaSplash (1-0): I was very impressed with this team; they only played six players and still scored over 400 points. When Ron Artest gets back this team could be looking at a dual #1 ranking in both the UPFL and UPBA.

#4 – Wolfman (1-0): Did the Wolfman pull off another great draft? It looks that way with a strong opening week, and Josh Howard may have been a steal even in the second round.

#5 – Brazicle Schnooks (1-0): Outside of the most ridiculous waiver claims in recent history (Scola, Herrmann anyone?) this team had a good opening week with strong play from Dwight Howard.

How many of us did this back in the day? Now how cool would it be to slow-mo it like this? We might need to make a Nerf Fantasy League

UPFL SUPER 8

UPFL SUPER 8

Life. Speeds by quickly and fills up just as fast. As Commish I have had the time in the past to get these Super 8 polls out on Tuesday morning….ahhh the good ole’ days. Not anymore just so busy with teaching, grad school, coaching ball, refereeing, and oh yeah my family life. So getting this Super 8 takes a back seat. Jeepers I don’t even know if anyone reads it, but what I do know is I like putting the polls together to get the league thinking and talking and looking to try and knock off a Super 8 team.

As for the weekly previews? Forget about it. No time at all for that…So if anyone is interested in taking over a weekly preview section here on this blog, let me know and it is all yours.

My goal is to get this out quicker in the future, but sweet bacon corn I just might not. Either way here is this weeks Super 8. With a twist…teams in red are hot teams on the rise…teams in blue are cold teams on the decline…enjoy.

#1 – AquaSplash (6-2): Two straight losses proves this team is beatable just like anyone else on any given week. Scary thought going into playoffs.

#2 – The Pacific Ultions (6-2): Had a shot at #1, but they let it slip through their hands last week.

#3 – Jon Kitna’s Optimism (5-3): The trades of the past few weeks have made this team stronger just like the Kanye West song, and the kids at school think I don’t know music.

#4 – The Ghost Riders (5-3): Running back concerns aside, this team is playing tough and I would think has the pieces in place for a title run.

#5 – North Side Ghetto (5-3): Moving along after the Ronnie Brown injury, but can they keep it up for the next nine weeks?

#6 – No Mercy in the Dojo (5-3): Should they be higher? Probably, but only another solid RB is keeping them back, because Tom Brady is really, really good.

#7 – Copper Queens (5-3): Review #6 above.

#8 – Statutory Defendants (4-4): Lookie here, last years champ hasn’t touched the roster and now all the pieces are falling into place.
