UPFL SUPER 8

25 10 2007

UPFL SUPER 8 (Oct. 23 – Oct. 29)

#1 – AquaSplash (6-1): No way they lose the #1 ranking after this loss, still a lot of points and it took a BIG game from Tom Brady to knock them from the undefeated ranks.

#2 – The Pacific Ultions (6-1): They inch closer to the #1 spot this week with their fifth straight win.

#3 – IOwensU (5-2): Give this team some respect, as they have won 3 straight without SJax who is due back this week to solidify this team even more.

#4 – No Mercy in the Dojo (5-2): Tom Brady.

#5 – Jon Kitna’s Optimism (5-2): Some big trades this week will change the face of this team but not the name.

#6 – Millen’s Men (4-3): An outstanding WR crew is waiting for Jon Kitna to report back to his former self.

#7 – Copper Queens (4-3): Tom Brady.

#8 – Double Lung (4-3): Addai is gone and in comes Gore and MJD.

UPFL SUPER 8 (Week 6)

20 10 2007

The top teams in the UPFL for the week of Oct. 16th – Oct. 22nd

#1 – AquaSplash (6-0): If AP plays like that all year, gonna be tough to stop this team

#2 – The Pacific Ultions (5-1): Quietly they have marched up the rankings and have the best record in the IOFC

#3 - Double Lung (4-2): Joseph Addai is back this week to keep the Lung rolling

#4 – North Side Ghetto (4-2): They took a shot at #1, but didn’t come close, still they will be a tough out come playoff time

#5 – Blumkins (4-2): LT2 finally got it going and Drew Brees found some game, and the Blumkins have won three straight

#6 – No Mercy in the Dojo (4-2): A tough loss this week, but hopefully the Bears D can find their bite soon for this team

#7 – Jon Kitna’s Optimism (4-2): Two tough losses knocks this team down the poll, but they still have the weapons to march back up

#8 – Falcon Crazy (4-2): Very quietly this team has put together a three game winning streak

UPBA Pre-Season Super Five

15 10 2007

UPBA SUPER FIVE

#1 – Cobblestone Pez: The defending champs should have three titles, if Tracy McGrady didn’t sit the last game in 2002/2003. This year’s version of the team is led by Steve Nash, fellow returnee Mehmet Okur and newbie Luol Deng, but they will need Richard Jefferson or Ricky Davis to step up to keep the Pez juggernaut crushing opponents.

#2 – Shakers Pizz Plan: No Jon Kitna here to give these team optimism, but they don’t need it. This team may look old on paper, but this isn’t the real NBA and all of these players are capable of 100 point weeks. If the Pez falters at any point expect this team to snatch up the #1 ranking with Tim Duncan and Gilbert Arenas leading the way.

#3 – Break Away: A very solid team with a nucleus consisting of Amare Stoudamire, Paul Pierce, and Vince Carter. That is three players who can go off for big numbers. With the late pick of Peja Stojakovic, which was a great late round flyer, this team has the potential for a big year and the chance to add a UPBA title to that UPBL crown this year.

#4 – Mayn Event: Another team from the Auerbach division? This division is going to be tough. A lot hinges on this team with the play of Jason Richardson and Andrei Kirilenko. These two were big time players only two years ago, and if they return to that form expect this team to vault up the standings.

#5 – AquaSplash: The Splash is rolling in the UPFL, but his basketball version is very solid from the top down. I though Ron Artest was a steal in the draft, and having Tim Thomas and him on your bench is pretty darn good. Add to the fact that Marcus Camby, if healthy, is possibly the best fantasy center in the UPBA. Could the Splash win both UPFL and UPBA titles?

UPFL WEEKLY PREVIEW (Week 6)

14 10 2007

Game of the Week (Week 6)

#4 North Side Ghetto (4-1) vs. #1 AquaSplash (5-0)

The two best teams in the GLFC will battle it out this week to determine who takes over control of the #1 seed in the conference. A win by the AquaSplash would give them a big advantage as they would take a two game lead on all teams in the GLFC.

The AquaSplash has relied on the superb play of Tony Romo this year and also behind the running of Joseph Addai. Addai is on bye this week, and Romo will have his hands full with the Patriots D, but this team is loaded with quality players. Terrell Owens and T.J. Houshmandzadeh make up the WR crew, and Adrian Peterson and Maurice-Jones Drew form a solid backfield for the Splash this week.

The Ghetto has ridden the resurrection of Ronnie Brown the past three weeks, and have enjoyed the great play of Plaxico Burress. One are of concern for this team is the QB position with Chad Pennington at the helm, but he has been adequate enough that this team keeps winning.

I think the Splash will ride their solid RBs to a victory this week and take a commanding lead in the GLFC for the #1 seed.

The Commish Picks Winners (Week 6)

Last Week: 6-6, Overall: 25-23

UPFL SUPER 8 (Week 5)

13 10 2007

UPFL SUPER 8 for WEEK FIVE

#1 – AquaSplash (5-0): Should have lost last week, and they still win. Everything in place for a memorable season.

#2 – No Mercy in the Dojo (4-1): Impressive win over the Optimistic of Jon Kitna vaults this team to No.2

#3 – Jon Kitna’s Optimism (4-1): A tough loss but this team still has to like their current position in the IOFC.

#4 – North Side Ghetto (4-1): Jesse Chatman who?

#5 – The Pacific Ultions (4-1): Ugly, ugly win, but guess what? Don’t matter that every other team would have beat them this past week, they beat the only team they had to.

#6 – The Ghost Riders (3-2): Benjamin Watson, sounds like a detective not Tom Brady’s favorite target in the redzone.

#7 – Blumkins (3-2): LT2 hasn’t got it going yet but this team is scrapping by without his big-time production and has won two straight.

#8 – Copper Queens (3-2): Tom Brady loves the Copper Country. Thank goodness for the Queens because they have no running game.

UPFL WEEKLY PREVIEW (WEEK 5)

7 10 2007

The NFL has been wacky with the down years for many of its top teams and top players that were expected to be good, but in their place have stepped up new faces and new teams to take over the headlines. Will this be a trend that continues or does the cream rise to the top?

UPFL GAME OF THE WEEK

#7 The Ghost Riders (2-2) vs. JLaw’s Crew (2-2)

Big game for each team as a win would give one of them an early inside track for one of the top four seeds who will receive byes in round one of the playoffs. The Riders rely heavily on Peyton Manning, but its not like this is a bad thing, he is getting it done like usual. The RBs for the Riders have been hit or miss or mostly miss the past few weeks with injuries to Brandon Jacobs and Rudi Johnson, but Jacobs is coming back this week and so things could be starting to turn on the RB front for this team.

JLaw’s Crew had a record-breaking week in Week 2, with all of his players scoring double digits. This is a team that also relies heavily on their QB, Carson Palmer. Palmer has been great this year in leading a Bengals team that has to throw often, but the Crew needs to replace him this week. Just like the Ghost Riders though this team has had its ups and downs with its RBs. Shaun Alexander has been consistent, but not dominant, and Jamal Lewis had one great week, but has not produced on a regular basis to be considered a solid No. 2 RB. The WR crew looks great on paper but have suffered from poor play on their prospective teams in real life.

Fact is both teams are 2-2 and maybe just starting to hit their stride which could be bad news for the rest of the teams in the GLFC.
